Thunderbird won't retrieve email - time out error!

Hi all

I have several email addresses, all accessed beautifully in Windows by Thunderbird. However, in Linux (Suse 10.0), I just can't get Thunderbird to download mail. Occasionally it will work, but I just get continual 'time-out' errors most of the time. However, with the same laptop, I can use Kontact to download and send all of my mail easily. How can this be?? Sending works fine.

My wireless router doesn't cope with IPv6 (I have to disable this in Firefox to get it to work) - could this be relevant to the problem?

Any help welcome as I love Thunderbird, and want to use it as my default email program in Linux.

ipv6 may be the problem, you might try turning it off system wide.

Adding the following to /etc/modprobe.conf should work:

Code:
alias net-pf-10 off

Also the about:config trick works with Thunderbird like it does with Firefox,
look for network.dns.disableIPv6 and set it to true.

Thank you so much for your help!

I didn't know that Thunderbird had a config editor option. I had looked but as you said it worked I looked again and found it. I disabled IPv6 and it worked immediately. I had suspected that was the problem....

Gaim doesn't work for me either - I'll try your /etc/modprobe.conf modification to see if that sorts that out.

Thanks
