thanks... but what to do in text mode?

Someone in dire straits here...

Just need a stupid machine that runs linux as simple intranet web server!

Thanks for your reply but what to do when in TEXT mode. As you figured out you are talking to someone that lives in the world of whingedows. I heard the rave about linux/unix but I am still yet to get this up and running.

IF I get this running. Does it install or give me an option to install any GUI eg. KDE desktop/others?

Bring on GUI or Windows waaaaa

hahahha

I can't even find the Mylex controller on the RedHat web site for any release...

Since there are several generations of the DAC960, could you supply some more info? Some supported ones (in SuSE) are...

DAC960PD
DAC960PJ
DAC960PL

Your other option is to remove one drive from the SCSI chain and install RH on it. That way you can (probably) config the Mylex support in RH and use the Mylex tools (I'm guessing there are some - I never get to play with the fun hardware) to build a functional array (RAID5) from the one disk.

I would probably look at using one drive for the root filesystem and then keep the RAID array for the web pages...

DAC-SW105 v1.05

I am not sure this is some old machine i dragged outta the art room!

I am a techo geek so I try my best to accommodate you with what version and hardware .. hang on while i look in the box!

MYLEX LNP1001 LAN Adapter nope!

I see an ultra chain too so i am guessing this model is a DAC960PD-Ultra

the others i can find in the manual are:
DAC960PD
DAC960PL
DAC960P

and I cant visit the MYlex website because someone upstairs has proxies that restricts my net access!

You should probably pull the card and look at what is silkscreened on the circuit board or find a product ID on one of the stickers.

... and politely ask the admin to allow mylex.com through the proxy.
