text distorts screen under XFree86

I am having trouble removing a major irritation from my X installation under redhat 7.3

The problem is that when text appears in a browser window or text area the whole screen seems to develop a ripple where the test is. ie the side frames of every window are distorted and so is the edge of the viewable area.

The amplitude of the ripple seems to be proportional to the length of the line of text.

Covering the majority of the text line with another window removes the ripple.

The colour of the text seems to also have an effect, black text is worst, grey or blue seems to almost completely remove the problem.

I am using:
* the standard drivers that came with the RedHat installation;
* an Eagle NVIDIA Geforce2MX400 with TV out;
* an NEC Multisync95 monitor.

Has anyone else seen this type of behaviour before and can anyone suggest what the cause may be.

It looks it's a problem with drivers. Have you tried the ones from NVIDIA?
