.tar.gz


why am I not able to open .tar.gz files?
it says "Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying... etc."

what do I have to download in order to open these and where can I get it?

sorry for all the question, im new with linux.

.tar.gz format is the compressed file something like zip.
In windows, you have to install something like "winzip", in order to open and extract zip files. It's the same thing.

Open the shell and go into the directory where the file exist. Then type,

tar -xvzf YourFileName.tar.gz

this will extract the files.

u dont have Accessories --->"File Roller" . Install it
