I agree with foo_bar_foo. However, Fedora ships with xorg while Ubuntu ships with xfree86, and since you've tried both with the same results, then my guess is that the problem is related to the intel integrated graphics device.
Those integrated devices share the system memory, so that should be your main concern. Check that you have the correct device driver for your specific chipset, prehaps re-installing it would help if something is broken.
Also check which driver X is loading in the [device] section, perhaps switching to another device driver (that also works
) would solve it.
