Syslog software for linux

Hi!

I've now googled for hours without any reasonable result. I'm looking for a simple program (gui) which listens on port 514 (syslog) and just displays the info. I don't (necessarily) need it to save or store the information, but a function to quick-filter the information would be desirable.
One would think that there would be fairly many open-source tools for this, since syslog is a fairly common standard, but everything I've come across so far doesn't work the way I want.

So persons don't suggest things you have already tried, could you tell us what programs you have tried and discarded?

Well, I expressed myself somewhat unfortunate; I haven't actually installed and tried a lot of software. When I search for "linux syslog software" (or similar), most of the software mentioned in the search results seems to be proprietary to start with, or software that just runs in the background with no GUI. I tried installing something called "Icinga 2", but that also seemed to be something without a GUI..? Maybe I'm just stupid.. I don't want some complex hard-to-configure software with a steep learning curve with something running as a server in the background and a client on top of that, I just want some GUI program that displays the syslog output from my router/firewall.

To be honest, I have never tried a GUI frontend. Icinga is much more than a syslog front-end and probably overkill.

How about https://loganalyzer.adiscon.com/? Adiscon is the company of the developer of rsyslog, which should give it some credibility. I found it by googling around and have no stake in this.

How about wireshark https://www.wireshark.org/ - which should be in a repo you can reach.

Unfortunately, debtags database cannot be used to search for packages anymore, which renders tools like axi-cache less useful, but still:
Code:
$ axi-cache search log interactive
2 results found.
Results 1-2:
100% glogg - Smart interactive log explorer using Qt
98% goaccess - log analyzer and interactive viewer for the Apache Webserver
More terms: goaccess glogg explorer webserver smart analyzer apache
More tags:
$ axi-cache search log analyzer
8 results found.
Results 1-8:
100% calamaris - log analyzer for Squid or Oops proxy log files
95% logtop - real time log line rate analyzer
95% fwlogwatch - Firewall log analyzer
92% analog - web server log analyzer
92% logswan - fast Web log analyzer using probabilistic data structures
89% awstats - powerful and featureful web server log analyzer
88% goaccess - log analyzer and interactive viewer for the Apache Webserver
67% octopussy - log analyzer, alerter & reporter
More terms: logtop fwlogwatch logswan awstats goaccess calamaris probabilistic
More tags:
$ axi-cache --all search syslog \( interface OR output OR contents \)
50% syslog-summary - summarize the contents of a syslog log file
41% libunix-syslog-perl - Perl interface to the UNIX syslog(3) calls
39% logtool - Syslog-style logfile parser with lots of output options
31% loganalyzer - web interface to syslog and event data
Probably not quite what you want, but still worth exploring.
