For the past few days I have been unable to use synaptic as it ´locks up´ on me. I enter the root password when requested, and the gui comes up, but nothing is ´clickable´. I am using Fedora Core 3 and KDE desktop. Any ideas as to cause/ repair? Thanks.
Sometimes it happens to me, I think it is something about rebuilding rpm database. When I reboot the system, it's working again. If you haven't rebooted your machine in that period of time, try it out. If you have rebooted, you might try to rebuild rpm DB by hand.
This is great. Synaptic was locked up because it opened up a dialog box under the main window, that prevented the main window from functioning until it was answered. The dialog box was to notify me that the database files were older than 48 hours, and waited for me to click OK. As I could not minimize the main window, it was impossible to get at. And when I killed synaptic, it was killed too. I'm not really sure how I got at it.
