Switching To GUI from command line

which combination of keys do i press to switch from the command line to a graphical user interface, and visa versa.

you need to start up X Window to get to the GUI, try "startx" and see if that works.

Depending on the distro, pressing ctl-alt-f2 or f3, f4, etc will show you another virtual console.

If you've already got a GUI running, use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to F6 to switch between text consoles. Use Ctrl+Alt+F7 to get back to the GUI.

If you don't get a GUI starting on boot, then run startx.

You can either do command startx or initiate the X runlevel with the command init <runlevel>

Personally I prefer startx
