Suspend ssh session using putty


Hi I was wondering how to suspend the session so that I can close putty then return to the session later. I can't seem to find this info the manual.

Hi,

You can't suspend a standard SSH session as such. You can suspend jobs and you can also keep a login alive with the ability to disconnect and reconnect at your leisure if you use something like screen.

What are you trying to do - at a guess it sounds like you want something like screen. Not sure if it will be installed by default on but try 'man screen' at the command line.

NYM thanks alot anyways. Screen was what I wanted but if you started a program with a gui, then it's closed when you close the putty even if you used screen. Oh well doesn't matter.

Yep, screen is what you want on the console. For GUI apps, try using VNC or NoMachine.
