Hi there,
as a newbie to Linux I am confused: SUSE is not giving a true driver with the distribution, so you have to download a nvidia kernel an some glx to install the card correctly. As far as I am concerned I would like to use a ASUS 3400 AGP grafic adapter with a RIVA TNT (128) chipset on it.
Well - first of all - Suse wants me to download 180 MB of patches, bug fixes and security updates which is not much better than a Service Pack from Microsoft if you ask me. After getting the *.rpm packet for the nvidia update, the tool (online update function of YaST 2-YOU) hangs and you have to close YaST2 and start over again.
By the way, YaST2 hangs the same way and even worse trying to discover the used hardware. Everytime it reaches the monitor (18%) it is gone.
My computer is a Athlon XP 1600+ on a Elitegroup K7S5A with 256 MB DDR-RAM.
Does anyone knows who to handle the problem?
Thanx a lot.
