Hello all. I use 9.2 right now. I am trying to install 19.1. Each time I try an install, it makes it to the screen where it asks you if you want to install, install without ACPI etc. I choose install. It changes to another screen where a set of balls are spinning around. After several minutes, it locks up.
I tried every setting possible using the F keys, as well as every install option. Nothing will get this software to install!
I then tried text only install and it gets to this line: "Searching for info file...". Then, it simply locks up. I can't shut down the computer or anything without actually unplugging the machine to reboot. I have been going at this now for four hours. Nothing I do changes anything at all. What info file is it looking for? Why can't it find it? Obviously the CD-ROM is functional, or it would not get that far.
I have installed SuSe 9.2 on many occasions on this machine. Never a problem. With SuSe 10.1, there is nothing but problems. I thought this software was supposed to get better, not worse.
Any ideas what is going on here? I am using an IBM with a Pentium 3 @ 1GHz processor.
I thought that maybe the CD-ROM drive might be the problem, so as a test, I uninstalled it and installed another one. The one I was using was a burner, so it may not have been fully supported. Once the plain, run of the mill CD-ROM drive was installed, the 10.1 install went in with no problems. Granted, it took me a total of 11 hours to finish everything.
Now, if only I can get the Logitech TrackMan Marble+ to work properly. There is a driver for a TrackMan trackball in Yast, but for some reason, no matter the settings, the wheel will not work in any programs. Hmm... it used to with no problems in 9.2.
Also, no matter how I set the power settings, the monitor still goes into shut down mode by going to a blank screen. When the trackball is moved, it comes back up... slowly as if it were just turning on. Hmm... all power save features have been either disabled, or told not to do that. Why does it ignore the settings? Curious. It did this also while still using 9.2, after the kernel was updated. Now it is doing it again in 10.1. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem? Possibly a kernel bug? I run an IBM computer with Intel processor. Wonder if this is a problem with the new kernel.
