SUSE 9.3 boot loader help req...

Hi,

I have an Amilo M3438G laptop with 2 disk drives.
The laptop came with some software called PowerCinema which allows me to watch DVD's without actually going into windows.

I have installed Windows XP Home on one disk along with the PowerCinema prorgam. I just finished installing SUSE 9.3 Pro on the other disk which went without a hitch until I booted back into Windows. I got a message saying the MBR had been changed and asked me if I want to reactivate PCM (PowerCinema) to which I clicked yes to. This returned my boot loader to its original config so I could not boot into SUSE. I used the SUSE install disk and reinstalled the boot loader and on booting into Windows I got the same message from PowerCinema.

Do I have to make a choice between either running SUSE or having PowerCinema working ?

Cheers in advance

Shandy

There must be a boot.ini file. It is hidden by default. Just open notepad and open c:\boot.ini

Do the following:

Assumptions: Windows XP is on /dev/hda1 & /boot is /dev/hda2 & / (root) is /dev/hda5
[list=1][*]Re-install SuSE boot-loader in the boot partition.
[*]Boot into SuSE; Go to terminal and enter the following command:
Code:
su -c 'dd if=/dev/hda2 of=/bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1'
You will be prompted for password, supply your root/admin password here.

A file named bootsect.lnx is created in / (root)
Now, copy this file to a floppy/cd and reboot into windows (and in the process reactivate PCM).
[*]Copy bootsect.lnx from cd/floppy to c:\
[*] Open boot.ini and append one line to it; now its contents should be like

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\bootsect.lnx="Linux"
[*]Reboot the PC and report back[/list=1]

Oops, that response was meant for another post for something totally different.

Right,
Sorry for the delay, I have done what you said and when I reboot I get the windows boot menu but when I select Linux I just get a black screen with the word GRUB in the top left hand corner. It just sits there so evetually I have to reboot.

Any ideas ???
