Suse 9.0 Pro AMD64 Shutdown

Finally got Suse Pro 9.0 AMD64 working with access to the Internet, after changing Linksys ethernet card for a Realtek. Clean install off dvd computer fine, shutdowns restarts everything OK.
Did online update everything OK except computer will not shutdown. As with 32 bit version all the correct kill / terminate commands seem to go thro' except at the point when you are expecting the computer to powerdown nothing it just sits there. Have to hold in the power button to power down or do a restart into the 32 bit and then you can shutdown OK. Any suggestions as too what is missing or has not been updated during the online update.
Clean install was carried out using "apm=off acpi=off", this did not effect the computer prior to the online update.
