Suggestions for small projects in Linux regarding system calls and/or device drivers

I am currently doing a short course which deals with Linux internals, system calls (inc. sockets), device drivers, embedded systems etc.

As a part of it,I am supposed to do a project on any one of these topics. We are given about 3-4 weeks for completion.

Since the scope is very wide as far as the content we learned is concerned, i am pretty confused about what to do the project on!!

Given the timeline for completion, can anyone suggest any good ideas which would make a good project in any of these subjects??

Thanks

Have you already created some code during your course that you could build upon?
Isn't there some aspect of using Linux that specifically interests you?
Isn't there a problem you encountered that you would like to fix?
Or are you a complete tabula rasa* w/o any goals?

*Not asserting that's bad or good, mind you...

actually i did encounter problems while using bluetooth module in linux and connecting my phone even through USB. and my friends always complain about the difficulty in getting their wifi to work properly. i tried to look at the source code many times to figure out stuff but couldnt make head or tail of it. (guess i am a little too "immature" for that as of now).

I dont know if i can do any relevant work in these modules, at least given the time constraints. but i may be wrong. so please do advice.

as far as what i found intresting, during my course, i found the concept behind filesystems and socket programming intresting. and i wrote my first basic character device driver today (woohooo!!!!! :P). and the idea of writing code that runs as a part of th kernel seems awsome.

But i dont seem to be able to put these things togather (into an idea maybe). So i was wondering if anyone with prior experience would know what direction i could take...

Thanks for helping out!

I wouldn't go for current existing modules as the're the fruit of years and years of work, not something you might easily delve into. Maybe something like ameliorating sockstat or iptstate or unhide?
