First of all, I am new to Linux and ancient on Windows (DOS 2.xx days, please don't hold that against me). I have used the search to answer a few other questions but can't find the answer to the following-

Am running Ubuntu 6.06 and this is about the 4th distro I've tried. I like it and I'm doing well, but one thing I can't do is get .mp3s to stream. I've installed and set XMMS as my default player, but it wants to download all .mp3s complete before starting playback. How do I get it to buffer a bit and then start playback without waiting until the end of the download?

Kaffeine has a plug in that streams WMV....about half the time. I think the lack of streaming in various browsers is a result of how the streams are setup on the site. If they involve ActiveX or DCOM it ain't gonna stream. I just take it as a proclivity of surfing in the Linux/Unix world. Forced downloading does preserve bandwidth if nothing else.

Streaming is not a big issue as I have 10 Mb download speed so the wait is not long for complete downloads. But being new to the Linux side of things, I thought I missed something.
