strange message exiting "startx"

hey I'm new,

I just finished installing gentoo linux, at least to the point where I can use 'startx'.

When I begin startx I'm given the option of quitting, or starting a normal (failsafe) session. I start the normal session, and I can only see a black screen. Is this normal?

I press ctrl+alt+backspace to exit, and there are messages that do not look good...

"
Using vt 7
(II) [GLX]: Initializing GLX extension
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/Speedo/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/Type1/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/CID/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/local/, removing from list!
xinit: connection to x server lost

"

I suppose I should just be happy that I can even RUN startx, but if anyone would give me advice in regards to these things, I would be very greatful.

I think they're just empty font directories. I've been getting similar messages on SuSE, but I just ignored it.
