Storing files on USB accessible from both Mint and PC

Greetings:

I successfully used the Linux Mint 9 USB installer on my 8gig flash drive and it works well. When I use my PC I can see 2.6gigs free in its folder, and just experimenting, I could store files there from my PC with no adverse effect on Mint, but I can't "see" nor access those stored files from either Nautilus or FileZilla. My non-techie search found people saying that creating a "home" directory on my flash drive will allow me to store files there that are accessible by both Mint and my PC but they don't state exactly how to do this or whether it is safe, so I came to the experienced people here for knowledge.

Also, its it possible to "flush" the memory in persistent memory to make room since there seems no way to prune specific files that keep filling it up?

Thanks for any info!

The problem is this. You have a faux install since you say persistence. The drive while booted to linux doesn't allow it to be read write in this case. The casper file is usually the file used to save between booted linux settings. You can copy that off and return it if needed. If deleted or erased all of the in between data will be gone.

The only way I know of to do this is to make two partitions. One ms format. Second one would be a real linux install. Then fix it to boot to the second partition.
