First, my audio was just fine in skype except that my usb microphone wasn't working. I rebooted.
Then I had only dummy output for sound device, all apps. I added my user to the audio group, relogged in, and that was fixed.
Except now when I use skype, I have static noises from any sound coming from skype but no other apps. I've tried fixing this with:
- Unchecked "Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels"
- Removing the skype I installed from the repositories (4.1.0.20.0-0ubuntu0.12.04.2), and installed from skype.com skype-ubuntu-precise_4.1.0.20-1_i386.deb
- Added to my /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and restarted the pulseaudio daemon:high-priority = yes nice-level = -11 realtime-scheduling = yes realtime-priority = 5 resample-method = src-sinc-best-quality
- Adding my user to pulse-access,pulse groups
- Killing pulseaudio and running it with verbose output pulseaudio -vv. Output in attached file.
