Putty is not able to set a X server connection: it is intended as a command line terminal only. Other software is thought to manage X connection, some free and some not! An example is Xming, but you can find a lot of them by googling!

you need to export the display in your redhat

EXPORT DISPLAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0.0

and you need a x motor in your windows machine like cygwin and accept the display

xhosts +192.x.x.1

after that it will work.

The two answers came in before I posted mine.

If you install Cygwin/X and configure putty to enable X forwarding, then after starting up a cygwin bash shell and entering "startx", you will be able to start GUI programs in your putty session and have the graphics to your local windows screen. The putty document has further instructions how to configure it for X windows.
I don't remember the display name you enter in the configuration.

You could also install the ssh client in cygwin and use it's ssh client instead of putty.

If you install cygwin/X, you don't need putty (though you can use it). Simply open a cygwin xterm shell and invoke your app via the commandline.
