Spamassassin help

I have spamassassin installed and need some help.

I am using evolution and to use spamassassin to filter the email, instructions say to use an sh script: spamassassin -e

However, trying this (and other switches) from the command line result in spamassassin not responding. In fact, the command just hangs.

When I try:
spamassassin -t < sample-nonspam.txt > out.out

I get a valid out.out file that has an accurate spamassassin score.

Is there something here that I am missing?

Thanks for the help!

Are you using the instructions from the site in my sig? If so, post your /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file and I'll see if I can spot the error...

Yep, I am using your instructions. Here is the file

# These values can be overridden by editing ~/.spamassassin/user_prefs.cf
# (see spamassassin(1) for details)

# These should be safe assumptions and allow for simple visual sifting
# without risking lost emails.

required_hits 5
rewrite_subject 1
subject_tag [SPAM]

For what its worth I tried "spamassassin -P -e" from the command line, and it returned that -P has been removed.

(My spamassassin -V is version 2.44)

And you set "Pipe message to shell command" "/usr/bin/spamassassin -P -e" and "does not return" ?

I am using 2.44 with Evolution 1.4 (new) maybe that makes a difference. The new version of Evolution is really nice.

I am not sure what else could be causing the problem. So it is not filtering in Evolution at all?

No its not filtering at all. I have the same config as you spamassassin 2.44, evolution 1.4.3 and it is set per your instructions on your webpage.

Do you still recieve email at all (even unfiltered)? I would try blacklisting an address and see if it tags it.

put this in the local.cf file

blacklist_from *@somedomain.com

(replacing "somedomain" with the domain of an account you can send mail from for testing)

I wish I could write tutorials like that. I am not sure who actually maintains that site. I just link to it. :-) It worked great for me..

Okay, it has started working now. I don't know what changed, etc. Maybe it was just all the positive thinking....

Thanks for all the help.
