Sound recording with real-time effects

Hi,

I am trying to do some real-time audio effects processing while recording, either sending the results to a file or to the sound card for recording on a different device eg a tape.

I have tried using aRts Builder, I like the way it works but I can't find any way to get input from my microphone - the AMAN_RECORD block should work (it appears in artscontrol when I execute the structure), but I don't get any sound in.

So, how can I get aRts Builder to work for me, or is there another program that I should try?

TIA,
- QS Computing.
