Start by thinking about the difference between the login methods. The users in NIS aren't in the audio group, which is why sound isn't working. Find the group number, and add the user account(s) to the group on the NIS server, change the MINGID value to be lower than the group number, and re-create the NIS maps.

Since you're using RHEL, have you contacted RHEL support, since YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT, RIGHT???? They can help you with such things. Also, why perform a new installation of RHEL 6.5, when the latest is 7.x? Why start out with something older?
