Sound Issues Works, Somewhat

I have searched for this all over the place (the forums and google) I have yet to find a answer. I have a onboard Via Vt8233A. I can listen to Live Streams from shoutcast.com that plays regularly, but when I play any mp3 it speeds up to Triple to speed, I have tried to change my outputs i went though all of them. This is on fedora core 2 my suse 9.1 and mandrake installs work fine right out of the box. This is rather frustrating I have tried install new soundcard drivers etc. I have had no luck. if you can help me out that would save me a world of anger.
