Unhappy Sound Card Problem

Hi,
I have been using Mandrake Linux 10.1 for 2 months now. And ever since I got rid of XP and installed linux,my computer does not play music files well. Whatever the realplayer can play, all music files run smoothly. But whenever i try to play music and video using other applications like Kaffeine, or Amorak, the sound plays with pauses and stops and repetitions. But real player plays all the music files it can handle without any problem. i was wondering if anyone out there has a solution for this.
Thanks,
Manzo

What sound card are you using? When you say it stops and pauses, do you mean it's jerky + choppy, or just skips to the next track and stuff? Also, what is the rest of your hardware such as processor + RAM?
