snmpd configuration help.

Hi all,

I am trying to install snmpd 5.4.2 and just seem to be falling
at the start!

I have installed snmp ok, set up a basic snmpd.conf using
snmpconf -g basic_setup and I can start the snmpd service.

However, whenever I try and do a simple snmpwalk I get the following

# snmpwalk -v2c -c public localhost
Timeout: No Response from localhost
#

The server is RHEL 4.

I have no iptables running, and selinux is not configured.

snmpd.conf is very basic and just includes the following

rocommunity public
rwcommunity public

Anyone help me with what could be wrong ?

Many thanks
