I installed sndconfig and recompiled my kernel 2.6.7 like over 10 times with sound support as module but the program doesn't seem to recognize I have module sound support. Everything I read says I should be able to modprobe soundcore when I have the kernel compiled with module sound support, however souncore can't be found. What am I doing wrong here?

I can compile the driver I need in the kernel but that's not enough to make sound working at once isn't it?

Also the alsa installation is giving me serious trouble cause it's simply not working the way the tutorial says it should be working and I can't find any info on the error I get. So if I can setup sndconfig to work ok I won't be needing alsa anymore do I?

what kind of a soundcard do you have? If its oem, you might not be able to get it working.

What's oem? As far as I know it's just on-board stuff. I can include the drivers in the kernel for the chipset I need.

But loose from this isn't it strange that module soundcore can't be found if I added module audio support in the kernel?
