Slackware 10 and GTK2

I am running Slackware 10 and I currently have GTK1.2 installed. I have downloaded GTK+2.4.9 and installed it with no errors. Now whenever I try to install a program that depends on GTK2 I get a GTK2 must be installed error. I'm really not sure what to do. I have looked through my FS and an GTK stuff is randomly stuck everywhere. What should I do to get newly installed programs to see my GTK2 libs.
