Skype login failed

I found a problem where I least expected it. I cannot use skype on my ubuntu hardy. I install it without a problem, but when I try to login it says: login failed, multiple instances may exist.

After some googleing and several different installations I am still no closer to finding out what is wrong.

If there is anyone with the solution please let me know, and if you need any extra info or command output I will send them asap.

Thanks in advance

That's just telling you that Skype is logged in elsewhere.

I get that all the time if Skype is:

a. Already running on that same machine -- look down in the apptray on the lower right(if KDE) and see if the little green Skype tray icon is there.

b. Skype will also do this if I'm signed on on another computer in the house on the same subnet.

This isn't any sort of problem with skype -- it's that skype is one of those apps that doesn't STOP when you close it, it merely minimizes down to the tray and runs in the background.

I think there is an option to get it to stop outright if you click "X" though.
Not sure since I am on Windoze here at work, and don't have access to the stable-OS at home.

I'm rather certain that neither is the case here. I checked gnome-system-monitor and it does not show there, and also i tried kill process but no luck. I have never successfully started it so I really confuses me.

Thanks

After all the fuss, "sudo skype" did it.
Thanks
