setting two TERM variables with screen

With gnu screen running, there must be a TERM set outside of screen and a TERM set within the screen session. My terminal is not displaying text correctly. Some text is missing. Other text is displayed in the wrong area. I have to constantly tell screen to redraw the window. I am running Gentoo Hardened 32 bit with Fluxbox and urxvt.

Here's a list of my available values for TERM.
http://vpaste.net/Ybj0O

Compiled options (minus means the configure option was disabled for those who do not use Gentoo)

Code:
[ebuild R ] x11-terms/rxvt-unicode-9.15 USE="256-color alt-font-width blink buffer-on-clear fading-colors focused-urgency font-styles mousewheel perl pixbuf secondary-wheel startup-notification unicode3 wcwidth xft -afterimage -iso14755 -vanilla" 0 kB

[ebuild R ] app-misc/screen-4.0.3-r5 USE="multiuser pam -debug -nethack (-selinux)" 0 kB
Currently I have both TERM set to xterm. I have used screen and screen256, none worked unless I had the wrong combination.
