Setting Default Apps

I am using KDE 3.5.1 and when I select a link from email or if I double click a .mp3 file while browing my system using Konqueror, I get the wrong applications.

Is there a way to set a global OS setting that I want Firefox to open all web links and things of that nature and XMMS for .MP3 files and related audio?

Go to KDE Control Center > KDE Components > File Associations

Alternatively, in Konqueror, right click on the file in question and select properties. Then click the little wrench icon and will bring up the File Properties including preferred application.
