my rh9 web / email server that had previously been perfectly stable now just hangs with no explanation.
I have to leave the country tomorrow and my gf's email account is on that machine.
Does anybody know of a diagnostic tool that I could use to pinpoint the source of these hangs ?
I know it's not hardware-related, because I've tested other systems on this hardware.
One thing I did that may have caused the problem was use this RH9 system on another box (took the hard drive RH9 was on, put it into another machine, reconfigured the hardware that was different and ran it that way for a while). It hung every 3 or so days. Now it's back in its original hardware configuration, (in which it had previously been perfectly stable for 6 months) and it still hangs.
What exactly do you mean by "hangs?" A Linux system has many moving-parts and subsystems... when you say "it hangs," it gives no clue as to which subsystem might be at fault. You need to be very detailed in your description of the problem.
And... you'd better be sure you have your passport ready, and plan to deal with the problem when you get back.
Was there any resolution to this problem? I am having the same things happen with my web server running FC2. All of a sudden it just stops working and completely locks up. Then I have to shut it off and restart it. I can't seem to pinpoint what is causing this. It was running for months just perfectly, and now this happens at least once a week. I finally got yum to update everything completely and I am hoping that will help. Thanks.
