Question Serious problems with Blender using Ubuntu 9.04.

I reported this as a bug a while back, but I want to know if anyone can help me.
When I install Blender (using 8.10 and 9.4), it doesn't work properly at all. It has major problems. I've attached a screenshot. I would appreciate any advice or help.
As you can see in the screenshot, when I change the size of the window horrible things will happen to the menus. Also, whatever the refreshing and trails issue is. It's very bad on Ubuntu 9.04. When I downloaded it for openSUSE, it worked perfectly. I mean perfectly. When I resized the window (quickly or slowly), it wouldn't mess the menus up or anything. I had not one little trail or any strange effects. However, using Fedora 10, it did basically the same thing. It's terrible. Terrible.
If you don't know what the menus on the bottom are supposed to look like, a ton of them have gone off the window completely (and always do this.) You can't even access the options when it's like this, things are cut off everywhere.

Hi Joe,
I don't know if this is relevant but blender has a hell of a lot of dependencies. When I simulated an installation of blender on my Sqeeze box I got this as an outcome:
Quote:
13 packages upgraded, 20 newly installed, 15 to remove
and that's just to install the blender package.
Cheers,
jdk
