I have Red Hat 9.0 running, with Sendmail 8.12.8. I am trying to upgrade to 8.13.0. After running the make and install, I tried to start the new version and got the following:

[root@hal root]# /sbin/service sendmail start
Starting sendmail: 554 5.0.0 Berkeley DB version mismatch: compiled against 4.2.52, run-time linked against 4.0.14
[FAILED]
[root@hal root]#


I then went and got version 4.2.52 of Berkeley DB from Sleepycat, compiled and installed (with out a hitch), and still no sendmail (same error). I tried a re-boot, and right now I am re-compiling sendmail.

We have found that the libs for Berkeley DB in the lib folders are still the old versions. How do we update them in RH 9.0

I have exactly the same problem. And I mean exactly the same thing. I would really like to get this working, since the computer can't send any email regarding alerts or status reports that I've setup in automated scripts before I tried to upgrade sendmail.

I've tried recompiling back to an old version of sendmail and berkeley db many times and many different ways (regarding options at compile time for locations to look at libraries installed from berkeley db) and nothing seems to make a difference.
