Hiya all! I have a very crippled RedHat machine that runs SendMail (and only Sendmail). I doesn't have any other software on it. I need to update Sendmail but I can't because I don't have 'make'. I tried to install GCC but RPM keeps complaining about missing dependencies. Does anybody know how to do an install or update on a very crippled machine like mine? Thanks
Some thoughts:
1. Grab some redhat installation cd's , boot them and choose 'update'
2. Get all the dependencie rpm's manually
3. Get apt for rpm
4. Reinstall the whole system with a newer version
Thanks Iceman, i'll give that a try. I'll need to install a CDROM drive but that is not a drama. When you say choose 'update' and 're-install the whole system with a newer version'. Do you mean re-install the OS/Kernel or just SendMail?
I thought you only need make when you need to compile Sendmail.
But if you update it from an already-built version (.rpm), you just
run rpm -U to upgrade it.
Thanks for that info. I know that system does not have 'make' on it but it does have RPM. If I run RPM -u do I need to reconfigure anything or will the config file remain?
