Sendmail Issue after recompilation
Hello,
Hopefully I'm overlooking something really obvious...
(Without uninstalled the RPM version) I recompiled sendmail 8.13.4 to replace the FC3 RPM version 8.13.1.
After compilation, a ./sendmail -d0.1 -bv shows the correct new version, with the options I need.
I reestablish all the symbolic links in /usr/sbin (renaming the old RPM sendmail binary to something else), and start sendmail without errors in the logfile. The problem is, it will not allow connections. It does appear to be bound to port 25, but telnetting to localhost 25 results in the connection immediately closing. The maillog shows: ...relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection reset by [127.0.0.1]
If I shutdown sendmail, rename the binary to something else, and rename the old RPM binary back to its original name, everything works fine.
So my question is, do I need to uninstall the RPM version before compiling? Or is renaming the old binary a valid method, and something else is wrong which is causing the connection problem?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
- Mike
