secret-tool Cannot autolaunch D-Bus without X11 $DISPLAY

Hi all,

I am getting the following error message "Cannot autolaunch D-Bus without X11 $DISPLAY" when I am running the secret-tool on bash shell.

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS
Release: 20.04
Codename: focal

dpkg -l | grep secret-tool
ii libsecret-tools 0.20.4-0ubuntu1

Any ideas in how to solve this problem?

Many thanks!

The message basically says that it wants to be run under a Xorg session. Are you doing that?

secret-tool is not in my distro's repositories. What's it for, does it have a website?

Hi,

thanks for your reply! Secret-tool is a and retrieve passwords.
https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages...et-tool.1.html

and here is the packet I downloaded:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal-up...ibsecret-tools

"The message basically says that it wants to be run under a Xorg session. Are you doing that?" -> I would like to manage this tool using my bash shell and not a graphical interface. Is there any way to avoid using Xorg for running secret-tool?

Thanks!

^ As I said, this is the first I hear of it, it's no even in my distro's repositories.

Is there a problem with secret-tools functionality?

Please show us the full command & the full output it generates, put it in CODE tags (see my signature).
