samba share of partitions

i'm sharing partitions (ntfs and ext3) between my winxp and two fedora 10 machines...

1)
i seem to be having issues accessing the shared partitions... i can easily get access to any samba shared folder but when i try to access the partition folders i get a 'unable to mount location' error

how can i bypass this?

2)
also i notice that i can't view shares on Fedora 10 machines unless i click on Samba under Admin and double click on the shares and click ok, then i'm able to view the shares on the network from other machines

i know samba is enabled to autostart on bootup...

any idea why samba is acting like this?
