What segfaults? Is it the nmbd daemon, or is it your client program instead. Samba (the smbd daemon mostly) is a server that offers services to clients. Please provide more information, such as what program you were using.

It it the smbclient program that is segfaulting, not samba. I don't know why it is segfaulting. Sometimes, a program will segfault because of a bug in some error handling code. Identifying the original error and correcting it may prevent the segfault. ( This isn't fixing the bug. )

I am able to run smbclient using: smbclient \\hpmedia\profiles
I have the profile service. If the wintemp service exists, then yours should work as well. I use the "security = user" option, so I didn't need to use -U <username>. It does work the same however.

Can you browse graphically to this service?
What does
smbclient -L <hostname> -U <username>
return?
It should ask for the user's password and then list the services, hostname, workgroup, etc. of the server.

Also look at the log files on the target. See if there are any errors indicated, which might indicate what lead to the bug. Also, repeating the command and cut and paste the exact notice, might be helpful.
