Arrow Samba opening files

OK here is a samba question that I have. I have a redhat 9 box running samba 3 that I use to store my music bootlegs. I can stream the music file but some times I have to open text files to get the set list of the music that I want to play. I have the music on samba and playing it on XP. I then open a text file and it takes a second to open and there is a pause in the music. It looks like there is a pause in the connection. I have 100mb card and am running the network on a 24 port switch. I was able to do this file on a W2K install on the same box. Any ideas?

Thanks
