Ok, so I put Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary Hedgehog on my machine. I have a parallel HP DeskJet 812C connected and shared properly. Menus are quick and responsive, as is printing. However, from a networked machine, regardless of OS, I can only print one copy. I can hit the Print button multiple times, and THAT will print as many as I want, but if I set the "Number of Copies" setting in the print menu of the client machine, lower-level apps will give an error and say they can only print one, and higher-level apps will just BS and give no errors, but will still only do one.
The only thing I've found anywhere online is a tag I put in the cupsd.conf file that says "MaxCopies 1" which I changed to 30, but altering that had absolutely no effect. This seems to be a default setting on newer distros now, and Ubuntu's gui menus for networked printers are nonexistant, but I got everything else and this is pretty confusing to me, and I don't know if it's Samba or CUPS or something else that's doing this. Thanks!
Oh, no no no. I graduated 2 years ago, I'm just still in the area. This is for a completely in-my-house setup. The "server" is really just a Pentium 3 733 w/ 128MB RDRAM and an old Quantum Fireball and a 100 gig Maxtor for networked random storage. There are only about 6 other computers in the house total, and the only ones that really ever use the printer are WinXP machines. But there's a Win 2000 box and a Win98 box that have the same issue. Like I said, only thing I found was the "MaxCopies" tag in cupsd.conf and I did put that in there (actually in every section, I don't THINK multiple entries will mess anything up, will it?) but it didn't make the slightest difference.
Well, I double-checked the cupsd.conf file, and tried the
Code:
MaxCopies 30
line in every individual section. I still don't think it should make a difference WHERE it goes, I originally had it in EVERY section, and I even rebooted the whole machine, with no change. It shouldn't be "MaxCopies = 30" should it? I know Samba's variables are set up like that, but the CUPS documentation doesn't have an equal sign? And is this even the right forum for a question like this?
