Samba and our friend win2k

hey all
got a question relating to smb and winblows
and god I hate to ask anything with M$ in it
I have an all BSD network................well was all
I now have a win2k box in it and figured on sharing my gigs with windoze.
Well when I log into 2k it wants a login for each of my boxes.
is there a way around that.
I know widoze is a PITA but there has to be a better way to workout logins on the network other than typing the same pass over and over again.
This nework has no PDC and samba is working like it should. I tried making the user pass the same for samba on all the boxes and giving win2k that as its login, however it still wants a pass for every box in the network every time I reboot widoze. I have encripted pass set to false and have hacked the reg it windoze. I can get to everything fine after its logged in but it gets old typing the same pass 8 times
any Ideas. I have searched all over google and have yet to find a answer to it.

Thanks in advance

Better late than never. (I know this was your only post over a year ago, but it is an interesting Q & an important issue for those interested in Samba.)

I think your problem is in

I am virtually certain that Winders(tm:-), esp. NT, 2k, & XP, insist on encrypted passwords.

Does this mean that you used smbpasswd to make the Samba username & password on each box the same as the W2k login credentials? If so, I believe that was the right thing to do. You may also want to create a regular *nix account on each box as well.

Feel free to correct or amplify this.
