Recently we had this horrible problem: We set up a Samba 2.2.8a PDC with a RAID 5 controller. Everything was going fine until one of the disks of the array failed. Since we had a RAID controller, the problem was not critical. When we put the new disk into the rack, and the RAID reconstruction began, all the data began to get corrupted.

As a result, out PDC was out of business. Now users cannot print, access to the network and so on. I read that reinstalling samba in another machine and changing the domain sid using smbpasswd -W (domain_sid) would fix the problem, but it didn´t work. The main problem was that we didn´t have a BDC in this domain, so all the security accounts dissapeared.

Now I´m trying to recover the info stored in the server, but my main problem is to rejoin the machines to the new domain WITHOUT losing any local profile data. If I join one computer to the new domain, the old profile data associated to the old domain becomes inaccesible. I want to prevent this in order to join the machines to our new domain.

Is this possible or I´m going to lose all my profile data?
