Samba 2.2.8a: How to migrate from a Broken domain
Hi there,
Recently we had this horrible problem: We set up a Samba 2.2.8a PDC with a RAID 5 controller. Everything was going fine until one of the disks of the array failed. Since we had a RAID controller, the problem was not critical. When we put the new disk into the rack, and the RAID reconstruction began, all the data began to get corrupted.
As a result, out PDC was out of business. Now users cannot print, access to the network and so on. I read that reinstalling samba in another machine and changing the domain sid using smbpasswd -W (domain_sid) would fix the problem, but it didnīt work. The main problem was that we didnīt have a BDC in this domain, so all the security accounts dissapeared.
Now Iīm trying to recover the info stored in the server, but my main problem is to rejoin the machines to the new domain WITHOUT losing any local profile data. If I join one computer to the new domain, the old profile data associated to the old domain becomes inaccesible. I want to prevent this in order to join the machines to our new domain.
Is this possible or Iīm going to lose all my profile data?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
