%s and %u

What do %s and %u mean on the command line? I have tried googling but cannot get a search for the string %u or "%u", I just get entries for u.

I'm asking because I have been having trouble with opening firefox with firefox -P [profilename] -no-remote "%s"

It works ok with just firefox -P [profilename] but I wondered what the $s was supposed to do.

I also notice that many of the commands in the applications menu are followed by %u and I am wondering if that should be appended instead.

Thanks

What applications menu is it exactly? In what DE? In the Desktop Entry Specification, %u means a single URL.

You could be referring to %codes in exec key of the desktop entry specification: https://specifications.freedesktop.o...exec-variables
