Running Filemaker Server 5.5 in Fedora 6

Hi All

I am quite new to Linux so please bear with my ignorance.

In my workplace we need to run Filemaker server 5.5 - a database server. We currently run this on Windows Server 2003 but we are keen to move to linux servers.

We have a Linux version of Filemaker Server 5.5 but it is meant to run on Red Hat 6.2 or 7.0.

When attempting to enter the registration code I get the following error

/usr/bin/fms_registration: relocation error: usr/bin/fms_registration: symbol h_errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

After doing a web search I found that it doen't work in anything newer than Red Hat 7.0 as it linked against the glibc2.0 libraries. The same source gave a workaround for upto Fedora Core 1 by downloading and installing compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm and then using the following script

#!/bin/sh
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_OLDGLIBC_LIBRARY_PATH}:/usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib/ \
LD_PRELOAD=${LD_OLDGLIBC_PRELOAD} /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/lib/ld-2.1.3.so \
"$@"

Sadly when I try to register the program (it is payware) I get

Error: Unknown Error; fmserverd binary was not registered.

The how to I was following is

http://www.giggo.de/publications/fmserver_redhat.html

I was wondering if there are any changes that should be made to take into account I am using Fedora Core 6??

Or is there another solution someone can offer?

Thanks for your time

You should't ask the same question twice. This looks like a duplicate of http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=540086

Only ask once, in the most appropriate forum.

Sorry about posting 2 forums. I am new to this forum and asked the question in Fedora sub forum before realising it probably should be here instead. Should have done a bit more looking before posting!

Apologies

If you do that again, just report it to a moderator and ask them to change the forum

Is there some reason why you are trying to use what looks like a pretty old version of software on a newer distro? it looks like it was problematic on FC1, and we'll be seeing FC7 in a couple of months. Filemaker is up to version 8.5 from what I could find - is there a good reason not to upgrade?

Noted re asking a mod to move the post, won't happen again.

We're using propietry software developed on for Filemaker Pro 6 clients which is servered by Filemaker Server 5.5. The recent versions of filemaker server are not backward compatible for our .fp5 database files. Though not the newest thing in town this particular software does all that we need and the staff are comfortable with it - this is important as our staff are computer illiterate!!

This may be a linux newbie question but what are the downsides to us just using Red Hat 7.0 which the software was designed to run on. This is the only application that would be on the machine and it serves to a LAN. I presume there may be some security problems and it is likley it won't work with new hardware, ie recent chipsets, SATA drives etc.
