running a command after a set period of keyboard inactivity?

Looking for a console program to run a command after a set period of no input being received from the keyboard. Any ideas?

Try xscreensaver
You can configure all timeout values etc, and have it run whatever program you like.

See `man xscreensaver` and your ~/.xscreenaver config file.

no x server

There's no X server running on this machine, it's a console mode only server box. Any other ideas?

Hmm... this might be dodgy, but you could look at the modification times on /dev/ttyx
I've noticed that console activity updates the timestamp on these special files.
