rtorrent configure

I'm having some trouble configuring source for rtorrent-0.7.9, first it can't guess the host type so it freaks out and complains to tell it if it's cross compiling. I use --host=i486 (Dual P3), and it starts up, but then stops again at "checking for execinfo.h... configure: error: cannot run test program while cross compiling". I'm not even cross compiling! I swear, it's only me that runs into this weird BS, can anyone help me figure out just how to bash this with a wrench to make it work, otherwise i'm just going to give up on torrenting with my server.

EDIT: A bit more information: --host is for cross compile, --build is for non-cross, if i use --build=i486 i get "error: cannot run C++ compiled programs."

You can try the rtorrent package for slack 12 and see if it will work on slack 11:

http://www.linuxpackages.net/search_...rrent&ver=12.0

I also found a slack 11 repo with rtorrent 0.7.4 that should work for you but it's not the latest version of rtorrent:

http://repository.slacky.eu/slackwar...rtorrent/0.7.4

Unless there's some reason you need the latest rtorrent, going with one of these packages would be easier.

Other than that, rtorrent lists libsigc++ as a dependency which may not be installed on your slack 11 system. That may be the reason for your C++ error message when compiling.
