rpm problem, package not installed

It's a weird thing.
I enter rpm -ivh <packagename> to install the rpm.

The package is installed and it's working fine.
When I enter rpm -q <packagename> it says that the package is not installed.
When I try to uninstall it with rpm -e <packagename> says that
the package couldn't be uninistalled, cause it's not installed.

Can't figure out why, it happened with all the rpm's I installed.
Any ideas?

rpm -q accepts the base filename and additionally the version number and is case sensitive. The extension (.i586.rpm) is not part of the rpm database and will not work.

You could also try rpm -qa | grep <package>

Thanks man, that's what I was doing wrong.

Didn't know about rpm -qa | grep <package>, very handy.
