rpm installation problem

Hi:

I tried to install mysql-5.0.27 on my mandrake10.1 box using the rpm command. The installation failed due to a missing aaa_base package which I then installed with no errors. But mysql still requested that package during the seconds installation attempt.

I then checked rpm -qa | grep mysql and it gave me nothing about the mysql-client or mysql-shared i previously installed. I tried to install them again using rpm -ihv package and i got package already installed. Then i tried to remove them using rpm -e package and I received that the package are not installed. Is it rpm problem or am I missing something else.

I appreciate youre help.

Did you use the .rpm extension when you tried to remove the rpm packages?
If so then that was incorrect. Once installed it is no longer an rpm file. It is a package that no longer goes by ' name_of_rpm.rpm ' Just ' name_of_rpm '

Is the rpm you are using more of a mandrake rpm or a redhat rpm package. Both the same but the database structure is a bit different based on the default installed packages. If the required packages needed for the install exist and are up to the correct version or greater then you can use the --force option to install. Check over at rpm.pbone.net for maybe a more distro specfic version for your setup.
