RPM installation error

Trying to install "redhat-config-packages-1.2.7-1noarch.rpm into Fedora Core 1. Get the following message:
Could not remove packages.
You have selected a package for removal that is depended
upon by a necessary system package.

RPM installation error

I am trying to install that package. It is a fix for a bug that prevents Fedora Core 1 from installing RPM's from the CD's.

From a command prompt type "rpm -i redhat-config-packages-1.2.7-1noarch.rpm". It should work.

RPM installation error

Thanks, njbrain:

The RPM still didn't install using the terminal method, but the reason why became apparent. Fedora Core 1 was using an earlier version of the program and wouldn't let it be removed.
I tried doing update, but got several error messages. Have ordered Fedora Core 3 on CD's, hoping that it won't have that same bug.
Thanks again for your help.

u can drag and drop into console.. so dont worry about typing all the shite in there..

if i remember right from my days with fc its "rpm -iv name-of-file"

if that doesnt work, since its a major bugfix try "yum install name-of-file" it should be in the fc database and if it is then yum will find it and install it all automagic like.
