Hello!

What disto/desktop

for RH9/gnome one way to fix this is:

first go to the main menu=>system settings=>add/remove packages.

select the delvelopment packages and insert the appropriate cd when prompted.

there are a number of other options but this will get you the gcc you seek

Download the first and third packages from here. Then install them both as root by doing:

rpm -ivh apt*

Once that is done do:

apt-get update

When that is done do:

apt-get install <package-name>

Apt will take care of all the dependencies for you.

download the plackages that are mentioned. you can get them from freshrpms.net or freshmeat.org etc...
install the packages one by one and you should be just fine.
